Purposes:
The attached pack is intended for teacher mentors in the East
Midlands, working with ITT trainees, to put into their CPD
portfolios. It can be used to structure and guide their professional
development as mentors. The sheets with tabbed names on them
can be inserted into transparent punched folders to act as
dividers in the portfolio.
Further
copies can be photocopied for distribution to all ITT mentors,
and an electronic master copy has been sent to all ITT providers
in the East Midlands Region for that purpose. ITT providers
have also been asked to put that on their websites, too, for
mentors to access it easily.
These
materials were developed by the SBT Recognition Project, supported
by all the ITT Providers in the Region, and funded by the
TDA, 2004/5.
The
Introduction
gives a full overview of how mentors may use the pack.
Over
the year 2005/6 the Region is piloting a Recognition Framework
which is being developed by the General Teaching Council [GTC]
as part of their Teacher Learning Academy [TLA] to operate
not just for mentors of Initial Teacher Training [ITT] students,
but for all professional mentoring and coaching activities,
to commence nationally in September, 2006.
The
regional pilot is exploring how well the regional Recognition
Framework can operate in tandem with the TLA Framework. The
TLA Framework is divided into Stages and, to support teachers
mentoring ITT students the Regional Framework has been redesigned
to align with it.
For
each of the Regional mentoring levels, where appropriate,
the criteria are shown for the first three of the TLA Stages.
So, to use them simply click below upon your mentoring level,
then identify at which Stage you would like to gain Recognition,
and work towards the criteria given in that section of the
attached pages.
Many
of the Universities and Colleges in the region are currently
in the process of amending their validated modules to align
them with the TLA Stages. That will enable teachers to gain
TLA Recognition and Masters level qualifications at
the same time. The current positions of this are summarised
below.
