Standards for the Award of QTS [ S3 Teaching]: Primary
The content of the book / resource:
Following a brief introductory section, the DVD is divided into 3 main sections, each corresponding to the S3 QTT standards subsections [3.1, 3.2 and 3.3]. Each is cross-referenced to support from the Learning Matters books: Teaching Foundation Stage and Professional Studies: Primary Phase. Its effectiveness in catering for its target audience
Although at the outset it is stated that this is not intended as a course, but as examples for discussion, the presentation is in the format of a course on each of the three sub-sections.The value to the user
The DVD provides a useful resource for school-based ITT programmes in particular, introducing each of the three sub-sections of Standard 3, and illustrating them well.
It would be useful to have a printed summary of the contents of the DVD, for easy reference for location of examples. Its capacity to support pupils and / or teachers
The selected extracts present a good range of teaching ideas, and the tutor/trainee meetings present good models of mentor practice. Its particular strengths and any weaknesses
There is a range of classes illustrated, although Nursery is under-represented, and absent in section 3.3. The lessons mostly focus on literacy and numeracy, though there are some brief extracts of other lessons.
It seems unnecessary to read out the Standards on the DVD in each section, and unfortunately it is not possible to focus upon selected parts within any of the three sections, they have to be viewed as a whole.Readability, presentation and cost
The presentation is professional and clear, and the cost, at £5.00 is very low for just over one and a half hours of play time.
