Comments
are often not judgemental enough – too subjective and lack depth
Comments often descriptive rather than based on evidence - evidence should
be recorded against specific QtT standards
Reports often only covered positive aspects of the QtT Standards without giving
a balance of strengths and weaknesses
Future targets are rarely identified, linked to appropriate advice and support
as to how they might be achieved
It is important to be honest and forthright – if the initial reports
are too ‘glowing’ it may create difficulties later if ‘concerns’
are raised about the trainee’s progress and development
Essential to identify progression and development, be wary of suggesting that
standards have been fully met. This may be unrealistic and dangerous and create
problems later in the year
