Important that areas for improvement are properly acknowledged

Report can have the function of helping to open a dialogue with trainee regarding future progress, targets, areas for improvement and development

Summary of report must be clear, concise, unambiguous, give targets for trainee which should be SMARTER (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, Time specific, able to be Evaluated and Reviewed)

Recognition of the wider audience for this report – e.g. HEI, external examiner, next placement school, etc.

Clear links to how the trainee can progress and also further develop their skills and knowledge

Contain elements of reflection and evaluation
