Mentoring and Coaching processes are increasingly being
valued in schools as staff development processes. But where
can schools gain support for development of useful skills
and approaches to employ in Mentoring and Coaching? This
site tries to help - linking it with the national developmental
structure.
At each level the approaches to be used will differ and
change over time, as shown. In this we are using the CUREE definitions
for Mentoring, Co-Coaching and Specialist Coaching. Clicking
on the link below will take you to a summary of this information.
Learning through Mentoring Conversations: this link takes you to a summary of research outcomes which suggest that currently, as mentors we may need to be aware that we:
a) might be less empowering of trainees' reflection and self-development than we believe ourselves to be!
b) may need to to change our approach, as trainees develop, from that of mentoring to one of co-coaching, using more open-ended questioning approaches.
